Heartbeats- Veronica’s Wedding Story

Heartbeats- Veronica’s Wedding Story

In the words of Veronica:

Every time I think I feel that my heart is filled to the brim with love, he does or says something that makes my love for him grow even more.

HOW THEY MET

In November of 2011, I had been working as a waitress for a couple of months with my best friend, Ali, in a restaurant in Downtown Miami, FL. Two guys walked into the restaurant and sat at the bar. They had clearly already had a couple of drinks before they walked in, seemed like they weren’t drunk, just a little tipsy. I locked eyes with one of them and I could feel my heartbeat speed up. His eyes, his lips, his big strong arms, it all made me feel attracted to him. They ordered a couple of beers and chatted with me for a bit. When I turned around, the strong guy tried getting my attention, except he called out every name except mine. Victoria, Vanessa, finally “Veronica” and I turned around. “Oh well now that you got my name right, what can I do for you?” He asked me for my number. I had been asked for my number a few times, but I always said no. I just never felt compelled to give anyone my number. This time it was different. I said I’d think about it and went about my work.

I walked into the kitchen and told my best friend “some guy out there asked for my number…. And I think I’m actually going to give it to him”. She smirked, obviously happy to hear that since I had NEVER, in the half of a decade had been friends with her, ever given any guy my number. “Go give it to him,” she said. I walked back out into the restaurant and wrote my number down on a piece of paper. After contemplation of whether this was a good idea or not, but something inside me told me I needed to just take a chance. I handed him my number and while looking at him in the eyes I said, “This is just so we can get to know each other, it does not mean I’m going out on a date with you.” He chuckled and agreed, then he told me his name was Fabian. After a few beers, Fabian paid for his and his friend’s beers and left.

THE DATES

The next day I worked a double shift and had some time in between for lunch. Fabian showed up at my lunch time and we sat down together and chatted for an hour. We had a lot in common, our family values, our belief in God, our drive for success. After that, I agreed to go on a date with him. We went to a sports bar and just had a long conversation. We laughed, enjoyed some wings and at the end of the night he dropped me off at home and didn’t kiss me. He left me with questions, did he not like me? Was I not what he expected? No, that wasn’t the case. He knew I had bad experiences before with guys being disrespectful and he felt it was only right to take things slow so I felt comfortable and actually wanted to go on a second date with him. It worked. We went on a second date, he did kiss me on that date, and it felt as if we had known each other for a long time. A few dates later, on December 18th, Fabian asked me if I wanted to make things official and become his girlfriend.

THE PROPOSAL

On December 24th, 2015, 4 years into our relationship, after various adventures, after ups and downs in life where we stood side by side, Fabian proposed to me in front of his whole family. But that wasn’t all. He had called my grandfather who was in Brazil and my mother who was in Miami to watch the engagement through video. He knew how important my family was to me and how much I wanted them to be a part of it all. How could I say no? I knew he was my soulmate.

THE WEDDING

Heartbeats- Veronica's Wedding Story | The TeaTime Girl
On July 8th, 2017 Fabian and I got married. We had a Catholic church wedding with all of our family and friends, then a huge party at the Tower Club in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Our family and friends came from all over the world to be with us on our special day, making that day even more special.

This month we marked 6 years together and 4 months married. Every day my husband makes me feel special. Every time I think I feel that my heart is filled to the brim with love, he does or says something that makes my love for him grow even more. I push him to be a better him and he pushes me to be a better me. We’ve completed degrees together, made life-changing decisions together, gone through tough times, and we have so much more to experience in the future. He is my love story, my soul mate, my happily ever after!
